21 Dec New search tool launched by OHIM
OHIM has recently launched a new search tool in beta version enabling users to search among device marks.
Clearance searches among device marks generally remain a complicated exercise, to the extent that the tools made available are often inaccurate or difficult to access and the assessment of the similarity between two device signs is particularly subjective. This is why it is always recommended to use the services of a trademark Attorney for such an exercise.
The new image search made available by OHIM is a welcome development, as it will now allow users to conduct searches, by directly uploading their device mark on to OHIM’s online interface. It is also possible to combine this search with additional information such as the Nice classification, owners, colours, etc.
As a major player in IP in Europe, IPSILON is contributing to this beta test version to assist OHIM in perfecting this new tool.
