27 Jan Adoption of the trademark package by the European Council
The European Council has adopted on November 10, 2015 the regulation (EU) No 2015/2424 amending the Community trade mark regulation (CTMR) and the Community trade mark implementing regulation (https://oami.europa.eu/ohimportal/en/community-trade-mark-legal-texts) (CTMIR).
This regulation aims at modernizing the legal frame of European trademark law to stimulate innovation by reducing proceedings’ costs and providing a better protection against counterfeit (see http://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/ST-10373-2015-REV-1/en/pdf). It is scheduled to enter into force on March 23, 2016.
From that day, the Office will be called “European Union Intellectual Property Office” (EUIPO) and the Community trademark will be called the “European Union trademark”.
