The Islamic Republic of Iran became officially the 148^th PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) Contracting State on July 4, 2013.

The PCT will enter into force for that State on October 4, 2013.

Any international applications filed on October 4, 2013 or after will automatically designate the Islamic Republic of Iran. Furthermore, as from October 4, 2013, residents and nationals of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be allowed to file international applications under the PCT.
